Let’s face it — when your iPhone is behaving strangely, it can feel like the device is specifically out to get you. One minute it’s fine, the next minute it’s freezing, or draining your battery, or simply refusing to connect with Wi-Fi as if it were on strike.
The good part? Many iPhone software issues can be fixed at home. You only need the order, and a little patience. Straight up (Aussie) troubleshooting guide with simple solutions you can try to avoid having to spend money or lose data.
1) iPhone running slow, laggy, or freezing
This one is super common, especially after an iOS update or when storage is nearly full.
Try this:
* Restart the phone (yes, the classic fix… because it works).
* Check storage: Settings → General → iPhone Storage. If you’ve got barely any space left, the phone struggles.
* Delete or offload apps you don’t use.
* Clear Safari history/cache: Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data.
2) iPhone keeps restarting (boot loop vibes)
If it’s stuck flashing the Apple logo or restarting over and over, it’s usually a software glitch—still stressful though.
Do this in order:
- Force restart
- iPhone 8 and later: press Volume Up → press Volume Down → hold Side button until Apple logo appears.
- If it happens again, upgrade iOS via a computer/PC (you will need to use the Finder on Mac or iTunes on PC).
- When in Recovery Mode always try Update before Restore (Update is less likely to delete data).
If it still loops after an update attempt, then yep… restore might be needed. That’s why the backup matters. Get details on Phone Repair in Fairfield.
3) iOS update stuck on “Preparing Update” or “Verifying Update”
Sometimes it just sits there forever like it’s thinking about life.
Try this:
* Switch Wi-Fi (or restart the router).
* Charge it up and let it sit for 20-30 mins.
* Delete the update and re-download it: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → iOS Update → Delete Update.
* If that doesn’t work, plug into a computer (which often is more successful, believe it or not).
4) Battery draining faster than normal
After an update the battery may drain for a day or three as the phone re-indexes things. But if it goes on and on, it’s time to see what is chewing the battery.
Fix it:
* Settings → Battery → check which apps are draining power.
* Disable background app refresh for power hungry apps: Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
* Limit location access for apps that do not require it: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
* Turn off unnecessary widgets.
5) iPhone overheating for no clear reason
If it’s starting to heat up when you’re not doing much of anything on your phone at all, it’s usually background activity, or some dodgy app, or a charging situation.
Easy fixes:
* Remove the case when charging.
* Don’t use the phone heavily while charging (TikTok + charging = heat party).
* Close demanding apps like Maps, gaming, video editing.
* Update your apps in the App Store.
If it heats up every time you charge, test another cable/adapter too. Looking for a Phone Repair in Bossley Park?
6) Wi-Fi keeps dropping or won’t connect
That makes people think the phone is “broken,” but it’s usually settings or conflicts with networks.
Try this:
* Turn ON and OFF Airplane mode.
* Forget Wi-Fi network and rejoin: Settings → Wi-Fi → tap (i) → Forget This Network.
* Reset Network Settings: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
* Turn off VPN temporarily if you use one.
7) Bluetooth not pairing (AirPods, car, speaker)
Bluetooth is great… until it isn’t.
Fixes that usually work:
* Turn Bluetooth off/on.
* Forget the device and re-pair: Settings → Bluetooth → tap (i) → Forget.
* Restart both devices.
* If it’s constant across multiple devices, do the Network Settings reset.
8) Apps crashing, freezing, or not opening
Often it’s just an outdated app version, or a storage issue.
Try this:
* Update the app.
* Force close and reopen it.
* Offload and reinstall the app (sometimes the app data gets messy).
* Check if the service is down (bank apps and social apps do go down sometimes).
If just one app isn’t playing nicely, it’s usually not the phone that’s the real problem. Get details on Phone Repair in ED Park.
9) Face ID / Touch ID suddenly not working
It might not be “broken”. Sometimes it’s just glitchy settings or a weird iOS moment.
Fix:
* Restart.
* Check Face ID settings: Settings → Face ID & Passcode.
* Reset Face ID and set it up again.
* For Touch ID, make sure the button and your finger are clean and dry.
If it fails during setup repeatedly, then it may be hardware-related (and that’s when ED Mobile can step in). Looking for a Mobile Repair Shop in Casula?
10) Storage full (even after deleting stuff)
This drives people mad. Photos, videos, WhatsApp media, and iOS “System Data” can balloon.
Do this:
* Settings → General → iPhone Storage → follow recommendations.
* Remove large videos and old downloads.
* Clear big message attachments.
* WhatsApp: Settings → Storage and Data → Manage Storage.
* If “System Data” is massive, backup + restore can reduce it (last option, not first).
11) Charging slow or stopping at a certain percentage
Sometimes it’s the computer software protecting the battery, not a problem.
Check:
* Optimised Battery Charging: Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging.
* Charge in a cool place (temperature affects charging).
* Try a different cable/adapter.
* Clean the port carefully (no metal poking please).
12) Notifications delayed or not showing
This is usually Focus mode, app settings, or battery restrictions.
Fixes:
* Check Focus mode in the Control Centre (it blocks notifications quietly).
* Settings → Notifications → select the app → enable alerts.
* Turn off Low Power Mode for important apps.
* Check Background App Refresh.
